A perspective few counsellors can offer
One of the reasons clients choose to work with me is the unique combination of experience I bring to every session. My counselling practice brings together four perspectives that rarely exist in one place:
- Lived experience.
- More than 30 years as a Medical Social Worker.
- 25 years mentoring graduate-level social workers through field faculty appointments with the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria, and the University College of the Fraser Valley.
- Five years as a Registered Clinical Counsellor.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege to work and learn alongside physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, rehabilitation specialists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. My work in general medicine, in-patient psychiatry, palliative care, hospice, neurology, bridging units, extended care, and the emergency room taught me to understand not only the emotional impact of illness, disability, and life-changing events, but also the realities of navigating today's uncertain healthcare system.
I know the many ways changing health can affect identity, employment, relationships, caregiving, parenting, retirement, and everyday life. If you're looking for someone who understands both the emotional journey and the healthcare system you're navigating, you've come to the right place.
A counselling approach that starts with you
Every person's story is unique. That is why I provide one-on-one counselling tailored to your experiences, strengths, values, and goals. My approach is person-centred, which means you are the expert in your own life.
We begin where you are—not where you think you should be. Rather than telling you how to live your life, I offer a warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental space where together we explore the choices that feel right for you. My role is to help you reconnect with your strengths, build resilience, and create meaningful change at a pace that feels comfortable.
Many people tell me they leave their first session feeling lighter, more hopeful, and with a clearer sense of direction. I invite you to book a complimentary consultation and experience what that first conversation feels like.
