Chronic illness counselling in Vancouver

Support for the parts of illness that others may not see.

Counselling for women navigating diagnosis, pain, fatigue, medical uncertainty, changing independence, and the life adjustments that follow.

When health changes touch every part of life

Living with chronic illness can affect much more than the body. You may be managing appointments, symptoms, treatment decisions, shifting energy, family expectations, work concerns, or grief for the life you expected to have. It can be exhausting to keep explaining an experience that is not always visible.

What counselling can make room for

Medical uncertainty and stress

A confidential place to process the worry, decisions, and loss of control that can accompany changing health.

Identity and changing roles

Support as relationships, independence, parenting, work, and everyday routines take a different shape.

Communication and boundaries

Practical ways to explain your needs, ask for support, and protect your energy without losing sight of what matters to you.

A perspective grounded in healthcare

Lisa Bentz, MSW, RCC brings more than 30 years of medical social work experience to counselling. Her experience working alongside healthcare and rehabilitation teams informs a practical, compassionate understanding of the systems and life changes clients may be navigating.

What appointments involve

Counselling is collaborative and tailored to your circumstances, strengths, values, and goals. It is not a replacement for medical care. It can complement that care by offering space to understand your experience, manage emotional strain, and find realistic ways to move forward.

Fees and access

In-person appointments are available at Electra Health in downtown Vancouver. Private telephone appointments are available throughout British Columbia. Counselling sessions are $165 for 45 minutes, whether in person or by telephone and whether an initial or subsequent appointment. Lisa offers a complimentary 20-minute phone meet-and-greet. If you have an access question, contact reception before booking so the available options can be discussed.
